Case Studies in Higher Education Administration

Edited by Jaclyn K. Rivard, PhD, and Holly A. Foster, PhD · Forthcoming Fall 2026

Balsamine Press’s first title is a collection of fifteen teaching cases for doctoral programs in higher education administration and leadership. Every case begins under pressure, a budget gap, a viral video, a board that wants an answer this week, and asks students to decide with incomplete information and inadequate resources, which is how these decisions actually arrive. The cases span institutional types, taking up enrollment strategy, athletics and NIL, online expansion and OPM partnerships, dual enrollment, international student support, free expression, faculty development, and AI in teacher preparation. Written by faculty and practitioners who have navigated or led through the situations they describe, each chapter pairs a case narrative with discussion questions and a writing prompt designed for role-based debate, negotiation, and memo drafting. The volume is peer-reviewed and will be published in an open-access digital edition, with print available on Amazon and IngramSpark.
